FORGED CONTINUES TO GROW

Momentum builds in NEPA

When we began shooting Forged on February 6 the word was out that an independent film was shooting in Northeastern Pennsylvania, but now as we’re just a week away from wrapping pretty much everybody knows.

Forged has taken Scranton by storm.

Forty plus setups a day and we’re still wrapping early most days, scenes are looking sick and we’ve been doing an insane amount of press in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area.

Earlier this week stars Manny Perez and David Castro, director William Wedig, and executive producer Joe Van Wie did a the Pennsylvania Independent Film show on WVIA, to talk about the film with sexy host Wendy Wilson.

It was an adventure. Wendy managed to charm the cast and filmmakers into divulging all the dirt on Forged, while busting on Joe Van Wie, who she knew since he was a little boy growing up in Scranton.

Off stage Wendy reconnected with Joe's older sister Gina, who she went to school with, as well as Joe's mother.

Also lately we’ve been featured on 97 BHT on the Ralphie Radio Show with Ralphie Aversa, Daniels and Webster on Rock 107, WBRE, WYOU, and WNEP news, as well as write ups in Electric City/Diamond City and the Scranton Times-Tribune.

Local sponsors have been great and we’ve been bringing more on just about every day.
Locations we’ve shot at include the legendary Scranton Lace Mill, Dunmore’s Bucktown Diner, The Bog and the AV Restaurant.

Things have been outstanding. The camaraderie between the cast and crew has also been amazing. While off the clock people are either hanging out together at establishments around the area including The Woodland’s, Mohegan Sun, Molly Brannigan’s, Brix and The Colosseum, chilling in the hotel enjoying dailes, or playing poker games.

Plus remember this is a road movie so we’ve been filming a wealth of driving scenes.

ONE LOCATION DOWN

Day 3-4 Scoop

Four days of "Forged" in the can.

One location wrapped.

And the train is still rolling ahead at full steam.

After our first day off Monday, it’s Tuesday morning and the cast and crew of "Forged" are putting all hands on deck and heading back to work this morning.

Today we’re shooting on Richmont Avenue, in the Green Ridge section of Scranton at a location that is considered to be the home of one of the film’s key bad guys, Moose, who is played by Kevin Breznahan.

Scenes today will be between Kevin and Manny Perez.

Dailies are looking absolutely sick. The red cameras are living up to their hype, and cinematographer Zeus Morand is living up to his.

Takes have been going smoothly with young director William Wedig going to work everyday well-prepared, knowing exactly what he wants.

And the stellar cast has been doing its part. Despite the intense shooting schedule (e.g. we shot 50 setups Saturday, 30 of them first team) actors have continued to nail their scenes all day long.

Unfortunately we’ve said goodbye to Margo Martindale, who wrapped Sunday. In addition to being a very disciplined actress, she’s always a warm, friendly presence on set.

She’s one of those people who is always entertaining, and just seems like a genuine person you’ve known your entire life.

During takes, though, she’s not joking around. Nobody is.

One of Margo’s scenes Saturday was between her and Kevin.

It was Kevin’s first scene and it involved him arriving at Dianne’s house to look for Chuco.

The scene involves a little interrogation, and ultimately Moose becoming violent with Dianne.

It was gripping.

Every take seemed so real that it played out rather disturbing. However Kevin would transition back into his fun-loving entertaining self between takes, even apologizing to the house’s dog Tar for yelling so loud, and being mean.

Then Margo’s daughter stopped by the set with a friend, showing up just in time for a front row seat to her mother’s intense scene. Liz, who is a junior at Binghampton University, drove down to hang for a little.

Also Happy Birthday to David Castro. The young star had the day off Saturday to celebrate his 13th birthday, and when he returned he was quick to tell us how things are different now that he’s a man.

“The girls look at me different now that I’m 13,” he said.

Jaime Tirelli, who plays bad guy Caesar, got his first reps in Sunday.

Like the rest of the cast he mixed his professionalism, with an innate ability to keep things light between takes.

Thanks to the Whistle Pig Far and Pumpkin Patch in Noxen. Homeowners Joel and Stacy were more engaging and accommodating than should ever be expected.

They had to be sick of us by the end, but never showed it. We’re all going to miss them!

Forged Train in Motion: Day 1-2

You could talk about it as much as you want but despite the preproduction planning and hype, it's never official you're making a movie.

That is, until the director says action, and the cameras roll.

Well, it's on.

It's official for "Forged."

Cameras rolled in Northeastern Pennsylvania Thursday morning, on what looks like could be our coldest day of shooting.

Temperatures were in the single digits.

We shot at Dianne's house where Margo Martindale's character resides.

After beginning with an exterior between Chuco (Manny Perez), and Machito (David Castro), Dianne (Martindale) arrived on-set to begin hitting her scenes as well. As freezing as it was, what proved most evident in the cast was how well-prepared they were.

"They're all pretty much nailing it," director William Wedig said.

Takes were smooth and easy, our biggest problem being the bitter cold during exterior shots, and nailing the audio down on the porch shots, when cars and tractor trailers kept driving through.

On Day 2 the sun was out, and the temp was up around 25 so we were all ready to pull out the bathing suits. Once the sun went down and it was time for the night shoot in the garage, the weather was again unbearably cold.

Throughout our first two days Margo kept the cast and crew entertained with tales from her massive body of work (Do you know she was in The Firm??).

Meanwhile being a preteen didn't stop David from telling stories about all of his ladies. Although he isn't a preteen anymore. David's thirteenth birthday is today --- Saturday February, 7.

David and his mother Kathy headed back to Long Island for some family time for his birthday, and he has a dance competition. They should return to night to get ready for Sunday's shoot It could make for an interesting situation when you're shooting in someone else's home, but homeowners Joel and Stacy have been extremely accommodating.

They've been sweet and gone out of their way to be hospitable to the cast and crew. Their dog, meanwhile, seems to relax while casually strolling through the set, and making friends with just about everybody.

Although all are in agreement that's it's "damn cold," still the set remains laid back and fun.

READY FOR KICKOFF

It's 2:49 a.m., Thursday February 6, and the final countdown to kickoff is on.

Cast and crew have done their homework, studied the playbook, and are ready to take the field and get rid of these pregame jitters.

Manny Perez (Chuco), Margo Martindale (Dianne), and David Castro (Machito), as well as his mother Kathy are in town, and ready to begin filming.

Forged will beging shooting early in the morning, and then it's relatively non-stop for the next month.

In a few hours the cast and crew assembles for breakfast and then we head off to Noxen to shoot at "DIANNE'S HOUSE," where we'll be working hard through the weekend.

Everyone seems excited, well-prepared and ready to get to work in the near arctic temperatures of Northeastern PA.

Check out this story Electric City editor Randy Shemanski wrote on Forged, for this week's edition of popular NEPA weeklies Electric City, Diamond City as well as the 570 Website: www.570.com.

Randy did an outstanding job with this week, and EC/DC and the 570 always have all the up to date info on the area's arts and entertainment scene.

If you're out and about be sure to pick up a print copy of Electric City or Diamond City, and in addition to the Forged story, check out the photos courtesy of Tom Bonomo.

You'll find Electric City throughout Lackawanna County, and Diamond City in Luzerne.

Thanks for the support guys.

FORGED GOES PUBLIC

Movie stars entertaining at press conference/cocktail party

Hollywood and Northeastern Pennsylvania in the same breath?

You might say that.

Media and local patrons came out to party with the cast and crew of Forged Saturday.

A press conference, and cocktail party took place in the hotspot Breakers, at the Mohegan Sun Casino welcoming the stars, director and producers of the independent film to NEPA.

Film stars Manny Perez, Kevin Breznahan, Jaime Tirelli, director William Wedig and producers Joe Van Wie and Josh Crook answered questions for the press and public.

Even though this film is an intense gritty drama, the boys are always funny --- whether they’re being interviewed, mingling with fans, or just chilling out.

Still, it’s not all punch and cookies for this talented ensemble. The actors spoke passionately about their characters. All seemed well-prepared and excited to delve right into their work.

They’ll get the chance Thursday, when the cameras roll in Scranton. Shooting will run through March 6.

Expectations are high as the cast already seem to have instantly formed a bond. The heavyweights seems to have an instant rapport, chemistry and high-level of mutual admiration each other.

After interviews with local press, Manny, Kevin, Jaime, Will and Joe appeared on the Ralphie Radio Show on top-forty station 97 BHT.

Popular young on-air personality Ralphie Aversa got all the inside dirt on the film, while laughing it up with the cast on the air.

One of the highlights of the day had to be the always amusing Kevin asking for girls to come to the set to work as extras, or just hang out.

He’s looking to enjoy the women of Northeastern PA, so if any ladies are interested in being an extra hit up FORGEDCASTING@GMAIL.COM.

IT'S CRUNCH TIME...

Making a movie is like going to war, and nobody wants to go into battle unprepared.

With just one week till "FORGED" begins shooting, producers are working hard to make sure everything's in place before the weapons are drawn and the battle begins.

Shooting is slated to being Monday, February 2, and then there's no time to make mistakes. It's going to be a hectic month-long schedule full of 12 hour days.

Throw in the arctic Northeastern Pa. winters, and high amount of outdoor locations, and there's no time to be wasted. Everything must be locked down and ready to roll, before the cameras roll.

Looks like the intensity, energy and enthusiasm is high. The stars of the film will arrive in Scranton later this week.

Over the weekend "FORGED" conducted an open casting call at the Holiday Inn in Dunmore. Over 200 people showed up to audition for roles.... primary background spots.

Megan Reiter of the Scranton Times-Tribune was on hand to keep the public informed.

Check out her story right here.
